Want To Freeze Some Fish?
More Fishing Tackle Products Reviews I watched on my recent trip to Alaska as the guides fileted and vacuum packed halibut filets to freeze for us to take home. I thought that would be a great system to have at home but the big commercial vacuum machine would be expensive. But ZipVac makes a good system that you can use at home and is reasonably priced.

Lure Retrievers
It is not unusual to get hung up while fishing plugs - in fact an old saying goes "if you aren't getting hung up you are not fishing where the fish are." But it is expensive to lose lures. A good lure retriever, also called a plug knocker, can save you money and your favorite lures. You can buy one or make one. Here are some options.

Trout Fishing In Georgia
Georgia is not usually thought of as a great trout fishing state. There are some very good trout streams in north Georgia and the trail races of some dams hold trout that are stocked by the DNR. I have caught a few trout over the years in my home state and have had some fun trips, although one almost killed me when I was in college.

Jacks Are Wild
Clarks Hill Chain Pickerel Jack fish or chain pickerel are first cousins of northern pike but they live over a wider range. They are fairly common in waters I fish in Georgia. In fact the world record chain pickerel was caught in Georgia. Here is one I caught at Clarks Hill on a Christmas fishing trip a few years ago.

You Can Not Tear Up IronClads Plastic Baits
More On Plastic Baits IronClads plastic baits have a special woven fabric inside that makes them almost indestructible when used in normal fishing. This means you can use them over and over, fish after fish. No more torn up baits thrown into the water to pollute the lake and be eaten by fish. Plastic worms inside fish do not go away and can hurt their health.

I saw an demonstration of these baits at a recent outdoor writers meeting. They were hanging in an upright glass tube. The worms were tied at the top of the tube and had a heavy weight tied to the other end. They did not break. I tried to break one with my hands and could not.

Snakes I Have Known - part 1
If you fish you will get close to snakes. Over the years I have had many encounters with "no shoulders" while fishing and camping. Most turned out poorly for the snake before I learned to leave them alone. Send in any of your snake stories to me to post in the "Fishtales" section - share them with me and other readers.

Night Fishing
Fishing at night is a good way to beat the heat and catch some fish. Bass, catfish, crappie, hybrids and others feed in the dark during the summer and you can take advantage of their feeding while it is more comfortable for you to fish.
